DESCRIPTION:
About five years ago, I met Toni Jolene Clay in Austin, Texas, at the Mickey Newbury Songwriters Gathering. Toni is originally from Ohio and lives now in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a songwriter and singer. You can hear some of her work at www.myspace.com/tonijoleneclay and at www.myspace.com/claylangstone. When we met, I knew right away that I wanted to write some things, both for her and with her. We've done some collaborations that I'm quite proud of. "Old Ida" is one of my oldest songs, from the 1970s, written in memory of a farm widow that I met in my childhood. Ida wasn't able to have children, and you might say that she adopted me. Toni liked the song and wanted to tackle it. I think she's done a wonderful job on the song. I made this video to document the song, and Toni's tender rendering of it. I hope it gives you something.
