Circulate The Soul is the collective name for a series of bands and projects initiated by pianist Ferial Karamat Ali.
Born in Suriname, Ferial started studying classical music at the age of six. She continued to develop her musical skills in the USA and since 1984 in Holland, where she began her career as a performing artist. On her journey through improvised music, she developed a distinct fondness for Brazilian jazz. Currently, Ferial is performing with her trio, featuring Glenn Gaddum on bass and Tim Dudek on drums, and with the Brazilian formation Sense Of Samba. She is a teacher of Brazilian and Fusion ensembles at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, performs workshops internationally, and is the musical director of Ray Blinker's Young, Gifted and Black project. Ferial's compositions are also recorded on the CD "ALVORADA": featuring Ana Beck, Theo de Jong, Hein van de Geyn, Roy Dackus, and Leonardo Amuedo, among others. More music can be found on myspace.com/ferialonmyspace [see the last page in the Friend Space].
