One of extreme metal's most revered avant-garde mega-beasts, CoDC formed on Halloween, 1998, on the southern outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Originally, the crosshairs were pointed at little more than spraying down the Steel City sewers with a bombing concoction of crusty blackened grind death and "maybe releasing a seven-inch someday". Countless lineup changes, an infamous string of obstacles as well as basements and stages across the country have been encountered and ultimately destroyed from day one and CoDC continue to push forward the boundaries of extreme music worldwide, nearly thirteen years later, in 2011.
CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN represent the audio end-times, a psychotic fast-forward nightmare into the sonic ash-heaps of humanity. CoDC are, as noted by press, the ultimate anti-everything band; anti-life, anti-death, anti-world, anti-music and anti-you. Critically acclaimed for lyrical concept and prose as much for their hyper-extreme approach to sound, CoDC possess the ability to both wretch and annihilate the listener as well rouse and intrigue.

"Joe Horvath and Jason Andrews remain as the founding members of CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN. One of extreme metal's most revered avant-garde mega-beasts, CoDC formed on Halloween, 1998, on the southern outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Back then the crosshairs were pointed at little more than spraying down the Steel City sewers with a limitless bombing concoction of crusty blackened grind death and "maybe releasing a seven-inch someday". Countless lineup changes, an infamous string of obstacles as well as basements and stages across the country have been encountered and ultimately destroyed from day one and CoDC continue to push forward the boundaries of extreme music worldwide, here eight years later, in 2006.

ZERO COMFORT MARGIN : 2005 : CDep Willowtip Records (US) : Earache Records (Eur)
I love this band! Sloppy and raw manic hardcore mixed with grindcore, a raging sense of urgency that sends me into panic attacks upon every listen, intelligent lyrics sung as if the singer's life depended on it. this is punk rock. This is also resolutely metal, grindcore, power violence, hardcore, power electronics; this is lots of things, this is whatever this cult band wants it to be. Like spiritual and sonic brethren Benumb, there's a power to the Circle's work that is undeniable. Thankfully this is only an EP, as this band's full-lengths tend to be a bit much to swallow. Zero Comfort Margin is as brutal a 20 minutes as you could ever hope to find anywhere, delivered with a shocking amount of sincerity and emotion for a band so hell-bent on complete fucking destruction. -- Flex Your Head
HUMAN HARVEST : 2003 : CD Martry Music Group (US) : CD + 12"LP Displeased Records (Eur)
More putrid, merciless grind/sludge from one of the underground's most articulate, humble, clear-headed, well-reasoned, and resolute bands. Circle of Dead Children spew forth vile locusts of earache faster than Nasum, but never lose lyrical clarity in their quest for higher thinking and self-improvement. Perhaps the only band this side of the pond worthy of a Napalm Death comparison, Circle of Dead Children are absolutely crucial in a scene otherwise flooded with pointless gore imagery and knuckle-dragging Neanderthals. These are the unironic sounds of intelligence delivered via primal aural rapings. a post-modern coup of everything shitty modern music is about. Long live the Circle. --- Lollipop
THE GENOCIDE MACHINE : 2001 : CD Deathvomit/Necropolis Records (US/Eur)
THE GENOCIDE MACHINE 12"LP Willowtip Records
Fuckin' fierce, absolutely unrelenting, an aural holocaust. This is the sound of the aptly monikered Circle of Dead Children. Seventeen blasts in nearly 29 minutes, The Genocide Machine displays CODC as the most urgently intense and downright ugly grindcore troupe this side of Pig Destroyer both elements long dormant in the hyperblast scene, if that means anything to you the band plowing through shattered shards of mince-core, crust-punk, and brutal death metal with a sickly abandon and vocal lacerations that equally probe the dankest regions of the bass tone and the upper stratosphere of treble: not drop-dead original, but drop-dead lethal any way you cut it. And with occasional forays into horrific Japanoise ambience ("From Eros to Thanatos," "CH/OR," and "Isabella's Nightmare"), and armed with an impossibly bent lyrical scope (among others, "It's a Bloody Day When You Get Your Head Nailed to a Cross," "Only One Per Coffin," "When We Make the Clouds Scream," "Extreme Cannibal Smoke!"), these blast-furnace berzerkers' fruits taste that much sweeter that is, like decade-old septic tank sewage and acid-ravaged sheet metal. Poetic, if you will. The Genocide Machine? Damn right.>Ink 19
EXOTIC SENSE DECAY : 2000 : CDep Willowtip Records
EXOTIC SENSE DECAY 7" picture-disc : Robotic Empire
Pure blazing and pummeling aggression that has not left my stereo since I first played it two months ago. The music combines elements of a number of genres including crust, grindcore, black metal, brutal death metal and hardcore into one single entity which is strangely difficult to compare to any existing bands I've heard. The vocals vary in pitch between a deep brutal death metal gurgle, to a black metal screech to a mid-range death metal growl. The guitars chug along with hard/grindcore rhythms and, combined with the pummeling drum beats, it will get absolutely any fan of brutal music thrashing around violently. The most interesting aspect of this band is they are, indeed, intelligent. Lyrically they've set themselves apart from the majority of extreme metal bands, straying from the typical subjects of guts and gore and focusing more on lyrics that will provoke thought from those who read them. Even their name has special meaning, and has nothing to do with gore and brutality, as most would think. This American quintet have captured my attention and stirred my mind and have quickly become one of the bands I'm most eager to hear more of. Unfortunately their Starving The Vultures 1999 full length sold out quickly (which was recently reprinted), however they will be recording their new CD The Genocide Machine shortly and I hope to be one of the first to get my hands on a copy. As long as you love your deathgrind fast and aggressive, you will go apeshit when you first hear this release. Buy it now, while it's still available! --- Teufel's Tomb
STARVING THE VULTURES : 1999 : CD Willowtip Records : 12"LP S.O.A. Records
With the popularity of grindcore what it is today, it takes something very special to stand out and distinctively separate itself from the rest. While the name and logo might suggest this is just another goregrind release, it's actually a very well done grindcore assault with minor influences of death metal and doom. For their debut release, Circle Of Dead Children manage to pull together blistering heaviness while staying tight and maintaining good tempo control. Amazing structure and an incredible effort on drums, Starving The Vultures is merely the first chapter (albeit a short one) in a long line of releases from this emotionally creative and artistic band. Whether you're a fan of grindcore or simply crushing, challenging savagery, this should be on your list. --- Kicked in the Face
