Chris Rael - Goodbye, Music (Goodbye, Music, 1986, cassette) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 30, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Chris’s early compositions in his native Maryland were conceptual, in part because he couldn’t sing or play much yet at the time. Goodbye, Music was a solo project recorded by Eva Cassidy’s producer Chris Biondo at Black Pond Studios in Rockville. The title track is about frustration. Its simple anger and dissonance captured the imaginations of new music lovers in Europe and musicians in New York that Chris would play with in the future.

I hope you’re entertained by pain! Why do I have wooden hands? Why do I have a poisoned brain? God gave me ears to hear beautiful sounds and withheld my ability to create them. Heaven laughed while I tried. I tried to kiss asses, and I tried to pull strings. I tried to be true and I tried to sell out. I waded and fought through a sea of self-doubt, and what have I got? I hate myself! I hate my goddam self, you understand? I hate myself. God, sometimes I wish I was stupid. How I love Mozart, I love Chrissie Hynde. I feel their sounds in the depths of my bones. I know the meaning of juju and jig and Japanese flute, and when I try… Thin! Plastic! Old! So goodbye, soul world. Goodbye, music. Goodbye music from around the world.
