Chris Rael - Meteora (The Game of Music, 1984, EP) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 09, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
The Game of Music was an early solo effort of Chris’s while living in Washington, DC in his early twenties. Electronic drums and other vintage sounds of the time are evident as Chris attempts to twist them into unconventional soundscapes. Chris saw exotic photos of the remote Greek monasteries at Meteora in National Geographic magazine and used them as a metaphor for the fantasy of escape in this aggressively dissonant song. Soon after Chris visited the site of his fantasy, traveling to Meteora in 1985.

I feel lighter than water. Shapes of trees hypnotize me. Licking curls of cool lava, moon sound reverberating. Honey meet me in Meteora, away from the veteran barflies, away from the politicos, away from the aspiring stars, away from the new patriots. Folks in Meteora live near the clouds. Ain’t got no cars, ain’t got no stereos, ain’t got no microwave, ain’t got no polyester clothes. Folks in Meteora think a lot. There is old magic here. Closer to the sky, reading minds of the stars. Fake running figures, watch them come to life. There is old magic here. Let my fingertips explain my dreams.
