GREAT3の片寄明人とショコラによる夫婦デュオ Chocolat & Akito。
2012年作「Duet」に続く待望の新作として、全曲をトロ・イ・モア、トミー・ゲレロ、レイ・バービー、etc…との活動で知られるカリフォルニア発、20代の若き双子サーフ・ジャズ・デュオ The Mattson 2（ザ・マットソン２）と共作したアルバム「Chocolat & Akito meets The Mattson 2」を2016年3月にRallye Labelからリリースします。

2008年に両者が出逢ってから8年の月日をかけて制作、熟成された全9曲。チェット・ベイカー、ザ・スミス、コクトー・ツインズ、ディック・デイルを一線に繋ぐThe Mattson 2のJazz~New Waveな感覚と、Chocolat & AkitoのPopなメロディーが絶妙に融合。

60’s米西海岸から綿々と受け継がれたサーフ～ドリーム・ポップをジャジーに体現するサウンドは、唯一無二の世界。互いの個性を100%に発揮しつつも、まったく新しい音楽が生まれました。

MIXエンジニアは、トータス、ザ・シー＆ケイクのジョン・マッケンタイア。ジャケット・アート・ワークを手がけるは同じくトータスから名盤「TNT」のドローイングでも有名なジョン・ハーンドン。

Chocolat & Akito

Chocolat and Akito Katayose (GREAT3) formed their musical group as a married couple in 2005.
They released their first album “Chocolat & Akito” in the same year which featured exquisite harmonies and beautiful melodies that balanced the light and dark, and pure and impure facets of life. Their second album “Tropical” was released in 2007, and their third album “Duet” was released in 2012.

In March 2016, they are releasing a collaborative album from the Rallye Label with The Mattson 2 from California entitled “Chocolat & Akito meets The Mattson 2” which was mixed by John McEntire from Tortoise.


The Mattson 2

If you could soundtrack the jangle of the sea and the jazz of the surf, The Mattson 2 would most certainly be the composers. The identical twin guitar and drums duo are truly a marvel of jazz-rock orchestration and arrangement. The duo shimmers and shakes with the soaring modern wizardry of Jared Mattson's untamed, layered guitars and Jonathan Mattson's tribal jazz hard- bop drumming. They channel the gorgeously hypnotic gods of surf, sun, and neon-punk-jazz of our modern universe, evoking evolved realms of experimentalism, rhythm, and story. The identical twin’s deep telepathic kinship navigates colorful forms of beautiful weirdness and exotic landscapes of layered improvisation, transcending the concept of modern musical performance. They have toured relentlessly throughout Japan, Brazil, Paris, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, The Netherlands, and the United States. The Mattson 2 have Bachelor’s degrees in Jazz and The African Diaspora from University of California San Diego, and Masters of Fine Arts degrees in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology from University of California Irvine. Mattson 2 have collaborated with Thomas Campbell, Ray Barbee, Tommy Guerrero, Cornelius, Chocolat & Akito, Money Mark, Nicole Mitchell, Mark Dresser, Farmer Dave Scher, John Herndon, and John McEntire.
