Calvin Weston became interested in drums at the age of six, he then lives in Philadelphia and has the opportunity to see on stage musicians such as Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five or James Brown. Noticing his interest in the instrument, his father bought him his first drum. At school, he learned to read music and play the snare drum in a set. He also founded the then Bad Influence group rotating in clubs and cabarets in Philadelphia.

At age 17, he joined the Prime Time group of Ornette Coleman with which it runs in North America and Europe and record four albums. He then played some time with guitarist James "Blood" Ulmer before joining the group Lounge Lizards in 1990. He will play and record thereafter with many musicians such as Billy Martin, Tricky, Eyvind Kang, Derek Bailey, Marc Ribot and James Carter. He also participated in recordings of soundtracks such as Get Shorty. Finally, he became leader of his own band, Calvin Weston's Big Tree.
