Ken Pendergast is a Philadelphia based professional bass player and producer. Performing nationally and internationally, Pendergast is heard at upwards of 200 live shows a year appearing in venues as large as the Kennedy Center and as quaint as Chris’ Jazz Cafe. He performs and has recorded with Melody Gardot, the Subliminal Orphans, Musiqology, Ralph Bowen, Aaron Parks, Rachael Yamagata, and The Monday Quintet among many others. As a session musician (upright bass, electric bass and 8-string guitar), Pendergast is regularly in the studio recording primarily Jazz, R & B, Rock and Hip-Hop, though is often called to venture into genres as varied as Haitian Rock and Indian Pop. He is also now teaching jazz bass at the University of Pennsylvania
SONGS
To Save It is an original composition. I got some last minute studio time and invited some friends to sight read down some tunes. Luckily I have some great musicians for friends. Personel - Matt Davis-guitar, Behn Gillece-vibes, Wade Dean-sax, Justin Leigh-drums, Chuck Staab-drums, Ken Pendergast-bass
McNamara's Band is an original composition recorded by the Monday Quintet, here from a early demo version. Personnel - Josh Lawrence-trumpet, Victor North-sax, Behn Gillece-vibes, Mike D'Castro-drums, Ken Pendergast-bass
Last One Down is a Chuck Staab tune recorded for his upcoming album due out soon. This was the last tune we recorded at the end of the session, half expecting that we wouldn't use it, but it came out pretty good. Personnel - Ralph Bowen-sax, Aaron Parks-piano, Kevin Hanson-guitar, Chuck Staab-drums, Ken Pendergast-bass
Worrisome Heart is the title track on Melody Gardot's debut album. Recorded independently in 2005 and due out on Universal London in 2008. Personnel - Melody Gardot-guitar and vocals, Charlie Patierno-drums, Joel Bryant-organ, Matt Cappy-trumpet, Ron Kerber-sax, Ken Pendergast-bass
Point of Contact is by Miriama Young. Miri is a New Zealand-er modern electro/acoutsic classical composer who currently resides in Scotland and this her experimental pop project The Briney Deep. Personnel - Miri-vocals, harmonium, Chuck Staab-percussion, Ken Pendergast-bass
Etude in E minor is a John Icaro arrangement of a Chopin etude done in 7. This was the first group I played with when I moved to philly. This was recorded at the UArts studio which came out decent thanks to Adam Blackstone(LL Cool J, Pharell, Jill Scott) happening to be in the class. I think this was probably my first real recording session. Personnel - John Icaro-piano, Adam Stranburg-drums, Ken Pendergast-bass
Kutand is an original of mine recorded during stripped down recording session in a livingroom. Personnel - Josh Lawrence-trumpet, Joe Trulio-drums, Ken Pendergast-bass
