DESCRIPTION:
STEREO version. Billy Williams was an American singer whose career spanned the 30s through the early 60s. He was the lead singer of The Charioteers between 1930 and 1950, when he formed his own Billy Williams Quartet. His biggest hit was his cover of Fats Waller's "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter" in 1957. The record sold over one million copies, reached #3 on the Billboard charts, and was awarded a gold record. His trademark hook for his songs was to shout "Oh, Yeah" at the end of lyrics. He had numerous TV appearances, especially on "Your Show of Shows" with Sid Caesar. By the early 1960s he had lost his voice due to diabetes and worked as a social worker until his death in 1972. This selection was released in 1959 and reached #39 on the Billboard charts. It is also included in the 2009 remastered CD "A Letter From Billy Williams".
