DESCRIPTION:
Bunjil Meets the Cosmic Water Nymph is a 5 minute ensemble sketch that's intended to have a big traditional melodic flavour enhanced by contemporary effects such as looping and glacial reverb. It creates the sense of complex orchestration when in fact, this piece could be performed by six violins, one cello, one french horn and one flute. That's only nine players, sounding like a much larger group. To me, nominally a rock player, modern concert orchestras seem overstaffed. Why have only 12 violins (classical orchestra) when you can have 30 (modern orchestra)? Could you imagine a rock group with a dozen bass players? In any case, in these days of limited budgets, it doesn't make sense to have a plethora of players all sitting on the same note. Bucking against this trend toward instrumental obesity, I offer this little piece.

The slideshow is made of some of my digital art, a ray tracing and a photo of recent years, chosen to hopefully run in aesthetic tandem with the music.
