LYRICS

I've got a billion dollar bill that says the crisis is over
Green is the new black

Then again in what kind of world is the pope the most progressive leader?
The black Messiah was a lie

Today's major threats: smart machines and dumb people taking over
Our biggest enemies: ignorance and fear

Life now is better than it ever was before
I sense an appetite for construction, an urge for something more
We're all spokes in this big spinning wheel, onward to a better deal
Life now is what the past called for

Or is the greatest thing we did correcting our own wrongs
Are we just fighting self-inflicted forest fires?

Life now is better than we ever hoped for

Point of reference or regression?
Walking back in a speeding train?
Is it hype or recognition?
Get with the program

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger” Friedrich Nietzsche

Even though we don't live in perfect times, there's no other period in time I'd rather live in. Despite the crises we are facing and the setbacks we are experiencing, progress on human, animal and environmental rights is visible when zooming out a little further.
Friends are engaging in amazing initiatives promoting a more conscious lifestyle, whether it's vegan and organic consumption or helping refugees. Also on a macro level there's an upwards spiral when looking at gay marriages in the US and some multinationals taking Corporate Social Responsibility seriously.
A growing number of reports of homophobia, xenophobia, sexism doesn't necessarily mean the number of cases is growing. It might also indicate that the attention for those issues is growing to the level they deserve, and that people are seriously engaged in fighting and reporting them?
One could argue that most current challenges we're facing are the result of human behavior; no humans, no problems. But our generation has the chance to learn from past mistakes, rather than get all misanthropic and complain about the human existence.
What a time to be alive.
