DESCRIPTION:
This vocal group, modeled after classic Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, existed for a brief while on the Chicago jazz scene in the early 1980s. Mike Rasfeld was a sought-after recording engineer, having started the legendary Acme Studios from scratch in a storefront. Multi-talented, he couldn't keep from indulging his urge to perform. Ron Cooper's story runs DEEP and can be best understood by watching the movie about him called "If I'm Not Home - a Jazz Life". Here's the trailer on another YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHVRGg5-uMo
These two creative souls have made their transition and many in Chicago treasure fond memories of them both. Joanie Pallatto is still going strong as a Chicago-based vocalist and recording engineer. Here's her YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/joaniepallatto
The solo order in "Cookin' at the Continental" (the Horace Silver composition that is the audio track on this video) is Joanie, Mike and then Ron. The order for trading fours at the end is Mike, Joanie and Ron. This concert recording was done by the curator of TheMotionDevotion on January 21, 1983 at Crosscurrents in Chicago. A studio recording of this tune (plus much else that is special) can be found here: http://www.mikerasfeld.com
