Serbia and Montenegro has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, debuting in 2004. The debut was successful, the country finishing second with the performance of Željko Joksimovic. In 2005, the second performance fared 7th, courtesy of the Podgorica, Montenegro, band No Name.

The same band almost went to Athens to the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest for the second time in a row, however, since their 2005 win of the national qualifier was disputed because of the tactical voting of the Radio-Television of Montenegro jury, and since the 2006 vote was a replica of 2005, the UJRT, national union of broadcasters, did not reach the agreement on sending them to the contest again. On March 20, 2006, Serbia and Montenegro officially withdrew from the ESC.

The withdrawal bears certain consequences, so the fate of Serbia and Montenegro's participation in several future Eurovision Song Contests will be determined. The country, however, participated in the voting of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Eurovision semifinal was not broadcasted in Montenegro this year, and so the votes from Serbia & Montenegro, were actually from Serbia only.

Since the independence vote of Montenegro on 21st May 2006, it is likely both countries will enter separate songs to the 2007 contest.

Serbia's worst placing was in Kiev, Ukraine on May 21st, 2005, when No Name placed 7th with their song "Zauvijek Moja".

Serbia's best placing was in Istanbul, Turkey on May 15th, 2004, when Željko Joksimovic placed 2nd with his song "Lane Moje".
