”Organic acoustic soul with a touch of exotica”

For Rosie music is more important than food. She sings in her sleep and danced before she walked. During a childhood spent between India and Hong Kong, Rosie imbibed music – Chinese opera that wafted through her bedroom window from the Chinese temple across the road, and the diligence of formal sitar tuition in her boarding school in the Himalayas Indian Bhajans sung throughout her childhood, the classical music of her mother’s background and the 70s funk of her father’s. Becoming proficient in both sitar & Kuchipurdi dance saw Rosie perform before crowds of thousands in India from the age of 7.
Rosie began to write songs at 14, accompanying herself on guitar, and went on to experiment with electric bass and percussion. Her songs explore her life and the complexities that entwine people and events. Her melodies are strong yet full of whimsy and unexpected poignancy. Rosie’s music has evolved a distinctive sound blending elements of acoustic soul and jazz with touches of exotica and groove.
Rosie currently sings with The Bakery – one of Sydney’s most exciting and rapidly ascending party bands. She contributes to the brigade of creative, colourful characters and their experimental jams, which result in the outlandish and recognisable songs that the eleven-piece band perform around Sydney, clad in outrageous costumes. And when Ohad Rein of Old Man River put out his cosmic feelers for a female counterpart to sing, play second guitar as well as sitar in his internationally acclaimed Sydney band in 2007, guess who was the serendipitous solution? Rosie continues to tour the world with Old Man River to date.
It is particularly through her solo project that Rosie’s creative energy culminates in a melting pot of acoustically soulful grooves, and lush melodies. She draws an audience into an intimate space with her quiet presence and charms them along the journey of her songs. For this young chanteuse, the world is a vast and limitless oyster, filled with exciting possibilities.
”One of the most pure musicians I have even encountered (and that is really saying something at my age!)”
