LYRICS
I’ll take extra care of her, I swore to her mother
And as soon as she gave me herself, I reached for another
I thought I could have as many as I wanted and it wouldn’t matter
Until I heard the sound it makes when it shatters

Where do you start when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart?
A destruction of art, when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart

I was so used to stone or ice in all my adventures
As I staggered the same worn path from the bar to the bedroom
Littered with shard of my own first love, now sentimental debris
I thought everyone else was a heartless as me

Where do you start when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart?
A destruction of art, when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart
Where do you start when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart?
A destruction of art, when you’ve dropped a porcelain heart

STORY
The event of this song took place only few years ago but it made me realize that there are still sometimes childish parts in people, even as adults. This type of childishness is not the good kind, either. I was in a very serious relationship and I wasn’t ready for some of the things she was. In hindsight, I realized I should have handled everything differently. The whole situation made me think of a time when I was very young and at my great grandmothers house. Her bedroom was upstairs and kids were not supposed to go up there. I remember sneaking in and opening the drawers to her dresser to find all sorts of shiny sparkling jewelry, porcelain trinkets and valuables. When I had ended my relationship and hurt this person very badly, I felt like a child who had dropped a precious item on the ground and shattered it to pieces, so it could never be replaced or fixed.

REVIEW:
"Dylan has such a carefree, natural spirit that really attracts you the moment you begin to listen to him. His upbeat, infectious, and carefree personality really makes you want to talk to him after a show, and begin to develop an emotional connection squarely based on his music that is equal parts brilliant and stratospheric."
