Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we’re parsing the Syntax Error, from Alexander Pedals. The Syntax Error is a highly functional glitch machine that takes its inspiration from the first wave of digital technology. With the new Neo series and its presets, MIDI/Expression functionality, Alexander harnesses the raw instability of old processors and digital converters to bring you four separate modes of operation, each with two global controls of Mix and Sample, and with two mode-specific knobs, plus a third bonus parameter for each mode. The four modes offer up a slice of vintage computing, with Stretch, Cube, Ring and Freq modes for your bit-crushing pleasure. Stretch mode samples your incoming signal into a buffer and then gives you options to manipulate every aspect of the buffer for mind-bending glitches that add new dimensions to your sound. Cube mode feeds your signal through a cubic distortion function with a resonant filter in place of a tone control. Ring mode activates a ring modulator that replaces the typical waveform with a random sample-and-hold LFO with plenty of flexibility. Freq mode gives a fixed-interval pitch shifter with the ability to completely corrupt the algorithm for a wide range of broken modulation and spiraling delay tones. You can fully configure the Syntax Error by powering up with the Select button pressed, letting you adjust everything from expression capabilities, MIDI data, ramping functions and even LED brightness. And just like all Alexander Pedals, the Syntax Error is made from the finest bits
