FRIDAY RELEASE - April 27th - Dibili Miuli.mpg - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 26, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This bit of filming was what you might call "set-up". The previous day, Dibuli Miuli had sung us many Idu Mishmi songs, most of them related to harvest or prayer, and one, which was the lament of a young girl who has no suitors. While sitting at her loom, the girl is calling out to anyone who may hear her, to say that she is as yet unmarried.

When we went to visit her the next day she was weaving at a type of loom that we hadn't seen before, and as we filmed her, we requested her to sing the lament of the young girl. She was really tickled and said, "Well people will think that I am the unmarried young girl."

This is a really tiny excerpt from that song.

FRIDAY RELEASE is an endeavour to share raw footage from the u-ra-mi-li project. We'd like to give you a sample of the kind of stories we have and are looking for; some of these stories may make their way into the final film, others won't. Do tell us what you like, what you don't, what links you see between different kinds of music or visuals, what you've seen before, or what the clip reminds you of.
