The Eternal Sun - John Tavener - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 06, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
This is tribute to Sir John Kenneth Tavener (28 Jan. 1944 -- 12 Nov. 2013).

Recording by Youth Choir "Kamēr..." as a part of their project World Sun Songs: http://www.kamer.lv/content/view/1/2/lang,EN/

JOHN TAVENER'S NOTE:
Frithjof Schuon's poem The Eternal Sun speaks of our earthly sun as a reflection of the Divine Sun which no earthly eye can see, and the music reflects this in its mirror images. The opening music for the main choir should glow with magnificence and splendour, representing the unattainability of the Heavenly Sun, but the later passages, especially the music for the distant semi-chorus, should be more nostalgic and haunting.

LYRICS:
THE ETERNAL SUN

In the sky shines the sun which God conceived
As the image of another Sun, whose light
No earthly eye can reach - Earth cannot see Divine Mystery.

The sun's splenhour, standing proudly in the sky,
Is not eternal - see how it sets.

Frithjof Schuon

Personal Note:
I do not own any rights to this music and do not make any money with this either. I simply want this music to live on and be known to the world. I didn't find any recordings of The Eternal Sun online.
I sang this piece with the University of Washington Chorale (somewhere around 2009). It was a collaboration of University Chorale and Chamber Singers under the direction of Geoffrey Boers.
