Paul Kelly is one of my favorite songwriters. This song was a hit in Australia in the mid-eighties, but it never crossed the pond to the US. I'm shocked that Paul Kelly is not well known in this country! I had the pleasure of seeing him play live here in LA at a few small venues and was blown away. I even had the opportunity to have a bit of a chat with him at Largo several years ago (although I doubt he remembers me). I love how this song tells a story you can visualize in your head. I hope you enjoy my interpretation.
