Born in Hollywood and raised in an environment of songwriters and musicians, guitarist/songwriter Tony Gilkyson originally started recording as a boy with his father, Terry Gilkyson, a composer for Walt Disney and a prominent folksinger/songwriter in his own right.

Tony played guitar with the Los Angeles band X for 10 years, starting with the acclaimed album "See How We Are" and continuing through the all-acoustic live recording, "X Unclogged". Other artists he's played and recorded with include: Lone Justice, Sam Phillips, Duke McVinnie, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Peter Rowan, Larry Hosford and Dave Alvin. He's also produced recordings for Exene Cervenka, sister Eliza Gilkyson, and "Dances With Wolves" author and poet, Michael Blake.

Since leaving X in 1996, Tony has played with Kip Boardman, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Jake LaBotz, Shane Macgowan, Mark Olson, Mike Stinson, Randy Weeks, Kathleen Wilhoite and co-produced with Tom Waits, Chuck E. Weiss' 1999 album, "Extremely Cool" as well as Weiss' 2001 album, "Old Souls and Wolf Tickets". In 2003 he produced the album "Country For True Lovers" by Eleni Mandell. He's also played guitar on numerous film soundtracks including the well received Johnny Cash biopic, "Walk The Line", "Don't Come Knockin'" and "All The Kings Men" with noted producer T-Bone Burnett. Tony's first solo recording, "Sparko", was released in 1998.

Tony's recent album, "Goodbye Guitar" is out now on Rolling Sea Records with national distribution by Redeye. The new CD, produced by Charlie McGovern and Don Heffington, features musical contributions from: Don Heffington, Van Dyke Parks, Eliza Gilkyson, Danny McGough & Chuck E. Weiss.
