Social Songs Learning Series, by Ukulelevis, Germany is for fun social learning. Meaning, hopefully the different keys provided by this social learning videos will be able to be played and sung by a female, male, or children. In other words, if you are a soprano (female high voice) the key you might want to play a particular song would be higher for you then that of an alto (female lower voice). Likewise for a male singer with a high voice (tenor), and a male lower voice singer (baritone or bass). For children learning some of the higher keys, for example, those sung by higher female voices might be the best start and then try the other keys to see which fits you the best. Another way for children to learn the ukulele is also just to try any of the other keys that a simple to hold with your fingers. For young players mostly the keys of C, F, G are easiest if you are a beginner which will hold true to playing other songs. So for the songs provided by this Ukulelevis: Social Song Learning Series, we will always have one song in a few other keys for you. It should be fun for the whole family. Short tips on pronunciation of the song in English, German and Tongan.

First of all to the English and Tongan singers, this is a German dialect (Schwäbisch or Schwaebisch) song from southern Germany that we’ll be using. So the rules for the German pronunciations still works in this case. Elvis Presley recorded it, but with less German text than I have here, plus I’ve added a Tongan verse to have a Pacific Island flavor.

While singing the German lyrics, notice that the “V” is used when singing the German “W” like in the words “allweil” or in this case “wenn” you have to think “venn”.
The word “schatz”....think “sh” in “should” and “tz” think “t” with “s” or “ts” like in the word “tsunami” at the end of the word “schatz” so in English you might want to think “shats”. Another German tip for you to keep in mind; Consonants is very important in German singing. So if you are used to having a lazy tongue while singing in English or Tongan, try not to, it will make a big difference for your German articulation.

For German speakers singing the English lyrics: Helpful tip for the word “wooden” is to think it has no “W”...so in your mind you are thinking “uuoOOden”.The “th” sounds for native german speakers is always difficult. Think of placing “1 centimeter! of your tongue out between your teeth and just blow air out while holding that position before saying “THe”. Keep practicing it and it will avoid the sound “ts” or “Z” sound....but keep practicing and you will get it.

Singing the Tongan lyrics:
Tongan language uses pure vowels so they won’t use diphthongs, kind of similar to the German vowels. So for English native speakers it might take a few tries.
