The word Shavuot means weeks (The Hebrew word sheva means seven, shavua means week)
The festival of Shavuot marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot. We count 49 days or 7 full weeks.
The period from Passover to Shavuot is a time of great anticipation. The festival itself preserves historical and agricultural significance
.
Agriculturally, it commemorates the time when the first fruits were harvested and brought to the Temple, and is known as Hag ha-Bikkurim (the Festival of the First Fruits).
Historically, it celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, and is also known as Hag Matan Tora (the Festival of the Giving of Our Torah).
I wrote "Shavuot" in seven pulses as a symbol for the seven weeks counting.
The inspiration for creating this tune came when I took part in a special Shavuot custom - "Tikun lel Shavuot" - few years ago.
In this special custom on the first day of festival, participants stay up all night and study until dawn.
It was a night of concert and study. It was a strong spiritual experience for me. deep and moving.
