Yelp (1995 - 2010)
Yelp was an alternative band with a hard core - musicly, brotherly and fanwise. The band was formed as Polite Vandalism in the early 90's and evolved into Yelp by '95. They rented a house together in the middle of an industrial compound where they were left free to create the sounds and music that still resonates to this day.
Due to a "coincidence" involving base jumper André Bach stumbling into a Yelp gig on his way home from town one night in '98, the band ended up recording the entire soundtrack for the world's first ever base jump movie "1st Base". (The fact that some of these songs based on feelings around freefall and edge-balancing were written prior to this request might come as a surprise to those who were introduced to Yelp by film). The release of this now epic film drew ripples in the water for the sport worldwide and also for the band as it, for some, became more than just a soundtrack to a movie.
The dynamics within the brotherhood came through naturaly in their music, sometimes fitting almost too well with jumping off a cliff. Maintaining their close friendship and respect for eachother they decided to split up the band after the millenium and went off to persue other music projects; Shaun Bartlett, MUA, ObiWon, Leech, Addicted To Habbits, Mua&Shaun, OX, OddBand etc.
In 2004 it took the enthusiasm of the same two film-makers (André Bach and Terje Halvorsen) to get the majority of Yelp together again to make the soundtrack for 2nd Base. The reunion was concluded with a short live show at the release of the movie.
Moving on to six years later . World Base Race contacted the band about playing at their 2010 venue in Romsdalen, Norway. After years of dissapointing replies to curious viewers across the globe, the band decided this would be a good year to put together an album of their old recordings and release it. On December 18th, 2010, fans from near and far walked, drove and flew over to share the love and effection for the music, helping conclude Yelp's presence with their best live performance to date!
