Ljoba told some stories, was interviewed about her work and then sang under the stars on the banks of the river Krka near Krska in southern Slovenia - a little village of astonishing charm called Kostanjevica na Krki. Her voice has a timeless quality of almost transcendental beauty - and her dedication to the authentic folk traditions of her homeland is fautless.
Her belief that the human voice is what connects the body to the individual, and the individual to the collective shines through in all her performances.
We were very fortunate to hear Ljoba in Sedbergh as well when she toured with Igor Velepic's choir from the Ljubljana Waldorf school in 2010.
Those who love the natural voice, one which is not trained into something contrived but is released from its natural state, would do well to hear this wonderful singer in her native country.
