I feel my project sits somewhere between experimental film and music video. I've taken the story of the lyrics and reworked it in images, but without trying to simplify, unify or explain it. I wanted to capture a caustrophobic distopian Melbourne, and filmed a lot of this on location in and around Melbourne. The rest of the clips are sourced from videos on the internet so many, many thanks to people whose videos may show up in here (but thanks for putting it up on the internet for the taking!). I have deliberately chosen rough, shaky, low-quality clips because I wanted the images to be unsteady, disturbing and amateur - that is to have the same feeling as punk/grunge music: fuck this, I'm just going to play something. The mood of the song itself really reminded me of the vile harshness of the Australian summer, which has inspired the video's colour.
