FAQ

Q: Where can I learn more about the composer?
A: Here is Orlando Gibbons' Wikipedia entry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orlando_Gibbons

Q: What does the title mean?
A: In Gibbons' time, the word "fancie" meant something like "fantasy" does now, and referred to a piece of polyphonic instrumental music with a free use of melodic material (as distinct from, for example, a fugue, which adhered to certain specific conventions).

Q: What instrument are we hearing?
A: The piece is being played on two stops (Rohr Flute and Holz Gedackt) of an Ahlborn-Galanti organ module. The piece would most typically be played on two violas da gamba, but it can also be played on wind instruments.

Q: I hear a woman speaking at 00:6 for one second and at 2:09 for six seconds.
A: When I recorded this, the radio was on, and a little bit of KQED leaked in. I didn't notice it until after it was uploaded to YouTube.

Q: Where can I get the sheet music for this?
