The composer was inspired by a poem 望月懷遠 written by ZHANG Jiu-ling in the Tang Dynasty 唐代詩人張九齡. The poem is about the missing of distant relutives during a moonlit night and the poet's sweet dream of coming back to his home. The composer uses the modes and forms of Chaozhou(潮州) zheng music and combines them with the rhythms and techniques of northern zheng music.
