The Stones We Throw
Ugly
Tell Your Friends*Tell Your Enemies 2006
The Stones We Throw live up to their name on the 2006 debut Ugly. Like a priest exercising his own demons, Dale Beach shreds a tumultuous rock-gospel for the betrayers and the betrayed without shooting the hardcore messenger. Accompanied by a single time keeper (former drummer M.D.) and his own tortured throat-gone-awry, Beach wraps massive, whirlwind-guitars around heartfelt hymns in a way that threatens constant implosion. Fist-pumping opener "Gauging You'' doesn't quite prepare listeners for the "The Landlord's Son," a first-date between a rapturous, metallic sludge that some how finds a way to slow-dance with a ghostly, yet gracious Issac Brock-channeling folk-bounce. However, the soul march and second chance-serenity of "Long Train Comin''' shines brightest in this rawk-carved bucket of stones. Keep your eyes and ears peeled—this Lonestar two-piece is heavily armed with guts and gear.
