VanKatoen
Alternative, loud rock with Dutch lyrics!
They have guitars, they have drums, they have bass, they have synths and samplers and they scream, but don’t let that fool you: VanKatoen is not your typical rockgroup. These Dutchies do it their own way, they do it independant. They do everything themselves! DIY-style.
Since 1993 VanKatoen has encountered several ups and downs in the Dutch music industry. They got a record-deal, but were pushed by the label to make a kind of music that really didn’t fit the band. So VanKatoen decided to start making music they love, the way they want to do it.
Ever since the band made that decision, VanKatoen has made a name in the Netherlands being on the most inovative bands around. They were one the firsts to put all their music on the internet, so fans can download it for free. To get the true diehards to buy their music anyway, VanKatoen e.g. released their album in a can, together with music by other unknown Dutch bands. The last album, Lef! (released in 2005), was even released as a t-shirt.
The music of VanKatoen is best decribed as a mixture between punk, (inde) rock, alternative and metal with some touches of hiphop. They sing/scream in Dutch, not only because Bazz, the singer, isn’t particulary vluently in English, but also because VanKatoen believe that thats’s the only way they can bring across the socially involved lyrics.
But more then that, VanKatoen is about making a crowd absolutely insane!
VanKatoen has:
• Played all the major Dutch festivals (like Parkpop, Pinkpop and Lowlands).
• Also played about all the minor festivals in the Netherlands (who hasn’t been to Houtenpop, Geinbeat, Ticket For Tibet or Pieterpop to check out the band?)
• Toured succesfully in Indonesia for five weeks.
• Released three albums: Doe het dan zelf! in 2003, Lef! in 2005 and Doorrood in June 2006.
• Had their own real-life-soap on The Box, music television: Kikke.tv.
