All 12 pieces are composed around the original form, without any changes to the poetry.

"Most of the poems are in their original Spanish language, except in the case of 4 poems, where I use the official adaptations in either French or English. Not being Hispanic myself, I thought using the French and English would make the project more international , since all of Neruda's poetry is translated in so many different languages.

When the 12th and final song The Saddest Poem starts, we are at the end of the journey of the love poems ("this is the last pain she will make me suffer... these are the last lines I will write for her"). This is the only poem where I have changed 'she' to 'he'.. as it feels very personal to me." - Ute Lemper, 2013
