THE SOUNDS OF UK GARAGE - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 09, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
From around 1997-2000 the sound of UK Garage became the biggest sound in dance music topping the charts and producing a slew of one hit wonders and endless sound-a-like remixes. Starting with what was titled "Speed Garage", which combined the 4 to the floor house beat with the low end basslines of drum'n'bass -- then morphed into "2 Step", which became more commonly known as UK Garage, in which the light tinny drum sounds combined with r&b vocals and tinny keyboard stabs but still a rumbling bassline. What started out as an underground phenomenon soon became over taken by Top 40 remixes and endless UK Garage bootlegs of popular rap and r&b hits. The sound became very popular at club islands of Ibiza and Ayia Napa but became so over saturated and cheesy it died a natural death to make way for the darker styles such as Dubstep. Oddly enough this light end of the dance music spectrum seems to have made a come back with popular dance acts like JLS having UK Garage remixes made of their Top 5 hits. This very special mechamix covers the gamut of the sound of UK Garage from the late 90's til the early 2000's with some of the biggest hits and remixes of the time and combining both original Speed Garage anthems with 2 Step classics and exclusive bootlegs!
