Shack Music figurehead, UK’s deep dance connoisseur Soy Mustafa started his DJ career at an intimate night spot in North London back in 1997. Born of Turkish parents in Tottenham, North London Soy grew up immersed in the sounds of Turkish folklore and his exposure to in a multi racial neighbourhood gave him a different taste in music from roots dancehall and reggae to a newer scene at the time which was jungle and hardcore.town.
The street sounds at the time growing up were early Jungle and Hardcore, as well as his growing influences in Rap and Hip Hop from the likes of Naughty By Nature and Public Enemy.
As time progressed music of a different nature was blowing up on London's streets and airwaves, taking musical elements from the dubs in U.S Garage, with these new sounds coming from Detroit!.
In 1998 Soy began playing on the underground station that was London's Y2K which was dominated with Urban Music. "I had the only House music slot on the station on Friday nights between 2-4am in the morning!" The graveyard slot proved to be inspirational as clubbers that often travelled back home tuned in. "Sometimes I did the whole 4-6 hour set thing just for the buzz form the usual 2 hour slot, because I was the last DJ scheduled it didn't matter."



Fast forward to 2004 Soy now as label head saw the launch of
Shack Music as well as the Cinematic Label in 2008 with friend Alex Celler, creating a niche for itself in quality underground electronic music and finding support the world over! Soy’s reputation as a purveyor of deep electronic dance music has transcended into his love of producing forming the new “Kemistry” act. A bit of a "synth whore" by his own admission as a DJ Soy can be heard playing anything from organic dubby house grooves to infectious techno with a dancefloor in mind!
