'Nerd Facts'

This track was on the same DAT as, but made a while before, Strength and Forgone Conclusion, but was very roughly mixed and needed another going over. Dego liked it but could hear the clicks and pops of an unfinished tune, but was alas lost to Akai floppy disc corruption. The sample is from 'Drugstore Cowboy' (presumably checked on the strength of the Cold Mission track 'Drugstore Rudebwoy') and was sampled blind with no visuals, just the audio from the VCR plugged straight into the desk. At the time I had no idea how cool William S.Burroughs was, and to be honest probably still don't.
I was always particularly impressed with the mood and beat editing, which I could never ever replicate (see 2009 remix for validation). Most of the sounds and the main break, Johnny Pate's 'You're Starting Too Fast', came from the Funky Soundtracks LP, released in 1994. Plenty of reversing and editing, and a re-use of the Untitled Saturday pad that would crop up in the Sonar Circle track 'Mist From Mars' a few years later.

Around this time I had my last ever school photo taken in the Upper Sixth, holding my first ever record released on Reinforced. I wasn't going to University, and I left with a D in English Literature, Computer Studies and General Studies, having dropped history in the first year. My History teacher said in our last chat 'Dominic, you are a cat and will always land on your feet'.
