Trail Driving (The Cowboy Song) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 31, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Song written and produced by Mark Behrens

The Chorus for this song was inspired by a book written by an actual Trail Driver (Andy Adams) who lived back in the Trail Driving era of 1867-1886. I highly recommend reading the book by Andy Adams entitled "The Log of a Cowboy"--it is said to be the most accurate account of a Trail Drive ever written by many folks who were or are an authority on the subject.

Note: all "color" photos are credit to the Athenaeum and all black and white photos were taken by Erwin E. Smith(1886–1947) who grew up in Texas right after the Trail Driving era was over. Erwin always wanted to be a cowboy and an artist so he set out to capture the life of cowboys on the ranch, trails, and the open range between 1905-1912.

Verse:
I was raised in Texas, I was a rancher, then a ranger,
Now I’m 1 man of 10 watchin’ over 2,000 head
Movin’, ridin’, drivin’

CHORUS:
Trail drivin’ up before the dawn
Gotta keep movin’, keep pushin’ on
Trail drivin’, sometimes ya don’t eat
Lord knows ya don’t get any sleep

Verse:
I can take you where the cactus and the juniper grow
I can tell ya about Red Cloud and Sittin’ Bull
I can tell you about the chuck wagon and the trail drivin’ man
I can tell ya about Crazy Horse and Custer’s last stand

CHORUS

Verse:
I’m a man of the western trails my son
Where the horse is king and the law’s a gun
I can tell ya about the pioneers, the cowboys, and how the west was won
Take ya where the buffalo roam and the coyotes run, yeah

CHORUS

Climb:
I’m talkin’ ‘bout a reputation
Old fashioned hard work and dedication
I’m talkin’ ‘bout trail drivin’ now
Roundin’ up the herd and movin’ out
