Envious
Written by Alice Peacock 4/6/2014

I envy the pillow that cradles your head
The shirts in your closet
The sheets on your bed
'Cause they get to touch you and hold you at night
Under the moon that bathes you in light

I envy the glass you raise to your lips
The sunshine that dances
And dazzles and slips
Through the cracks in the shutters that hold back the day
And traces a pattern upon your sweet face

Once in a dream you were all mine
We lived off the land
We drank from the vine
Music and laughter filled up our home
But then I awoke
And I was alone

I envy the wind that blows through your hair
Caresses your cheek
In the warm midnight air
The grass under your feet so silent and still
I long to be with you though I never will

Once in a dream you were all mine
We lived off the land
We drank from the vine
Music and laughter filled up our home
But then I awoke
And I was alone
