Verdict: Recommended if you like lush indie rock with big production and focus on sound.
Overview: Holy Fire is a declaration of defined sound from Foals. Every single track on this record presents a lush indie rock sound big enough to fill a huge arena. Big drums, driving bass, loud reverbed and layered guitars, and lots of vocal tracks are belted out to create an energetic yet austere listening experience. While it's clear this band is focused on their sound, their songwriting gets a little repetitive and stale. Many of the tracks sound very similar and very few strike an emotional appeal strong enough to ignite a passion for any of the tracks. What we are left with is substantial appreciation for the technical correctness of Holy Fire, but also a desire for something deeper.
