Social Security

Who are they? Where did they come from? Can they help me fill in my Job Seekers Allowance claim form? These are the questions people want answers to!

But seriously, Social Security is the musical meeting of minds of two brothers, Moses Latif and Inzajeano Latif. Thats the who are they? covered. They grew up in the ghettos of Tottenham and stick close to their community roots which covers the where did they come from? and as for can they help me fill in my JSA claim form? leave it out mate; you need to be a nuclear physicist to work those things out!

Social Security started off their musical journey at an early age, both inspired and influenced by music from all over the world. Artists such as Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi, Sade, Michael Jackson, Al Martino, Tony Bennet and styles of music ranging from Classical Asian Kawali to Rare Groove, House to Rap, Rock to Indie and Jazz and Blues found their way into their lives and so a desire to create and share their own musical vision was born.

Moses kicked off his career under the guise Zoobee MC waxing lyrical over the sets of Nicky Black Market, A-sides, London Electricity, High Contrast, Fabio, and Asian producer Talvin Singh.Meanwhile Inzajeano had been saving up his hard earned pennies to buy a set of turntables and the lads soon turned their hand to DJing. Of course from there the natural progression was to make their own music and in 99 the brothers pooled their resources and bought themselves a studio PC and got cracking with Cuebase, Reason and whatever other software they could get their hands on. With a veritable virtual arsenal of sounds they soon got picked up by none other than the legendary Fabio for his Creative Source imprint and Social Security had their first of many vinyl releases.

Following on from that impressive start Social Security now have releases on Hospital sub-label MASH, DOAs Under Construction, Formation, Emotif, Deep Structure, Exceptional, Diagram and Jungle legends Congo Natty under their collective belt. Not that theyre resting on their laurels, with their own imprint Benefit Beats already onto its third release and more planned productions on the way than you can shake a sonic stick at, Social Security are well and truly at the top of their game.

Social Security class themselves as 21st Century Music Producers and strive to create all kinds of beats, everything from Jungle / Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop and R&B to Bhangra and Eastern Drum & Breaks, an outlook that serves them well, bringing diversity and fresh flavours with every production.

Social Security are producers for the people, we make tracks for the dance floor and ignore the politics that are an ever spreading virus in our beautiful scene.

Benefit Beats

The future for Social Security is you. As long as you exist we exist. As long as you love our music we will continue to make it for you. That is why we set up our aptly titled label. Its all about the people benefiting from our beats.

Moses 2006

It seems that every producer with a couple of releases on vinyl is starting their own label these days. The majority however do not have the pedigree that Social Security can bring to the table. Not only have each one of their signings been bona fide dance floor favourites, their releases on their own Benefit Beats imprint have been just as impressive.

Born out of a desire to give something back to their loyal fans, Benefit Beats is Social Securitys baby. What makes Benefit stand out from the crowd is its blend of Musical Jump Up and Social Securitys original ideas. Each vinyl is blessed with a Sign On side and a Sign Off side, rather than your usual A and B sides. The ethos behind this being that neither side should be viewed as better than the other, both are equals and should be judged accordingly.

If the tune is Sign On then the tune is on it when the tune is Sign Off then its off the hook. So really its all equal. No tune is better than the other we are breaking down the barriers!

Inzajeano 2006
