NEW REVIEWS OF HOME DOUBLE ALBUM:
."Sleepers' new full-length, Home Disk 2, doesn't just drift through the ether - it bores fearelessly into it. After clawing a cavity in the atmosphere with a couple tracks of slinky menace and molten distortion, leader and multi-instrumentalist Kat Ellinger fills it back in with a mass of songs that defy pigeonholing: Everything from funereal-organ waltzes to kraut-rock-worthy drones - the latter perhaps a product of Ellinger's upbringing in Germany - paint a disjointed portrait of aching bliss and narcotized panic.
Texturally, Home Disk 2, is just as rich. Cavernous echoes battle oblique helixes of guitar; the alien algebra of Broadcast is evoked as often and reverently as the delicate shiver of Bjork. Ellinger's vocals likewise bear an icy tinge, even as they draw blood to the surface of her songs and give off an aura of ancient, even arcane innocence. And far from being precise, the spiraling trajectory of the album seems almost drunkenly calculated: Drums stutter, keyboards spin, and bass hyperventilates then holds its breath in bit-lip suspense. .be prepared for a tiny group from Denver to hold its own on stages across the Old World come springtime."

by Jason Heller, The Onion
"For more than a decade, Kathryn Ellinger has been writing consistently compelling and richly diverse music. This double album from Sleepers only adds to her renown. Exploring the wide expanses of the human experience and the finer shades of our emotional landscape, Ellinger's songs here are fogbound and melancholic while evoking the gorgeous, daydreamy psychedelia of Ghost and Mojave 3: dusky, lush, elegant and just a little spooky. As dark as things get, though, there's an animalistic core of defiance that bursts forth in fiery songs like "Pearl", as well as harder-edged moments in "Turn Yer Cheek," which rocks with playful abandon, providing a nice contrast to Home's other tracks, many of which skirt the edge of disaster and hysteria. Ellinger has always been a gifted lyricist, but this time, more than ever, she has matched emotionally naked lyrics with equally risky sounds for the best release of her career."

Birthday is the new full-length release by Denver's premier
post-rock trio, The Sleepers. The album was recorded at Ravenswork Studios in Venice,California, by veteran producer Eric Ryan.
About The Band:
"Let's saymaybe.PJ Harvey and The Breeders get together with Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath in the desert - and Sonic Youth shows up," offers the band as a description of the music. Kathryn Ellinger, Michael Trenhaile, and Greg Johnson (Nick Ryan took over on drums in 2004) formed The Sleepers in Denver in 2001 and immediately gained local recognition for their ability to combine the best elements of Denver's music scene into a cohesive, coherent blend. Their songs may differ in feel and tempo, but they're instantly recognizable as The Sleeper's own.

In 2002, the band embarked on a tour of the west coast; they were fortunate to have producer Eric Ryan attended one of the shows, which sparked the idea of recording at Ravenswork Studios in Venice, California. The result is the Sleepers' debut CD, Birthday.

Sleepers
By John La Briola
Published: Thursday, June 16, 2005
"An insomniac's dream come true, the Sleepers drift effortlessly between loosely structured pop and casually aggressive fuzz-core -- a fitting tribute to what Bill Shakespeare once referred to as 'the honey-heavy dew of slumber.' Gathered from the cast-off ashes of Denver's Worm Trouble, this drowsy post-rock trio of songwriter/vocalist Kat Ellinger, guitarist Michael Trenhaile (Body of Souls) and drummer Nick Ryan (who recently replaced longtime member Greg Johnson, formerly of Twice Wilted) expands the musical language of yawning landscapes to include the odd smattering of German. The band's exceptional debut full-length, Birthday, recorded in Venice, California, by RavensWork Studios producer Eric Ryan, marks the welcome return of some bona fide Front Range journeymen. "
The Denver Post
"Eerie, emotive and eclectic, this trio crafts Sonic Youth-sounding noise rock."
