Did you ever hear “shame on you” to criticize somebody? Shame is a complex concept as much as Gegen is. From one side it is an acquired word in the queer political agenda to define insulting, aggressive behaviour such as “slutshaming”, “fat shaming” and so forth. From the other side, the idea of “shame” ties itself to a moral system defined by specific religious norms and it is used as a device to manipulate people. It’s an operative system installed in human minds since their very first day through specific liturgies, dictating you how to please power through guilt. So this is a call to a focus on the contemporary queer vocabulary as naturalized acquisition, and on the performative joy of the “excessive” as a daily game, the refusal of the norm/transgression/punishment dialectics in the construction of the “moral” body (unless you are adults into S&M). This gegen is about using shame as black humor and excitation. Be Shameless in being Sahmeful. Be GEGEN. GEGEN SHAME.
