There's still time to sign up for the 2017 Johnston County Senior Games. Are you 50 and over? Know someone who is!? Be part of this incredible experience! REGISTER BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24th!

More than 40 different events from cycling & swimming to painting and basket-weaving. You don't have to be an athlete to have fun, get fit and enjoy some fellowship! Check out 86-year-old World War II veteran Paul McKay, He and his 85-year-old wife, Florence, have been earning medals in the State finals for 15 years! It's just a chance to get out, be active and catch up with or make friends!

Entry Fee - Only $15 for both Athletic Events and SilverArts Events (additional fee for golf ($18), billards ($2) and bowling ($6 per event).

SENIOR GAMES - GENERAL INFORMATION OPEN TO: All Johnston County residents who are 50 years of age or older. A participant’s age on December 31, 2017 will determine the category in which the athlete will compete. Participants will compete against their own gender and age group as follows: 50-54 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, etc. A participant must be a resident of Johnston County for three consecutive months.

ENTRY FEE: There is a $15 per person entry fee which covers SilverArts and most athletic events. There is an additional fee for golf ($18), billiards ($2) and bowling ($6 per event). Entry fees must accompany the registration form. FORMS MUST BE POSTMARKED OR SUBMITTED BY FEBRUARY 24, 2017. Call Parks & Recreation at 919-550-1550 if you don't think you'll be able to get your application in on time but STILL want to participate. We'll make it happen!

AWARDS FOR ATHLETIC EVENTS: Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each event at the SilverArts/Awards Showcase on Thursday, April 6, 2017 beginning at 9:30 a.m. (Participant ribbons will be given to everyone competing in the "Fun Walk.") Local medal winners are eligible to compete at the NC Senior Games in Raleigh in September.

Event at senior gamesThe NC Senior Games reach more than 60,000 people 50 and better, helping to get them active, socializing and most importantly, showing off their talents! The games began in 1983 and include more than 70 events, from sports as rigorous as cycling, softball, and cheerleading to heritage arts as calming as basket weaving, woodcarving and poetry. They provide a way for seniors to keep their bodies, minds, and spirits fit while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators and volunteers. Of those 60,000 who competed in their local games this year, more than 3,000 qualified for the state finals, like those in Cornhole and Bocce, held every year in Clayton! It's awesome!
