It's my pleasure to collaborate with Marilyn again on what is my favorite improvisation. There was something in the air the night I recorded this solo but I can't quite put my finger on it. I was not in a good mood (haha) and I wasn't really "on" in terms of playing. But, after all was said and done, I played angular and unique lines that I've been working on for a long time. The pentatonic/dorian, mixolydian, aeolian, blues hybrid approach is starting to click. Mix in a bit of whammy bar and unusual string bends and it worked. Plus, that Stratocaster was on fire. I found the sweet spot in it and it screamed!
As for Marilyn, I loved what she did with the videography. She had this back to me in a day and a half, which is amazing. In this production, Marilyn has every musical nuance covered with the on-screen movements and images syncing up with the solo. Take it from me, that's not an easy task. It can be frustrating and incredibly labor intensive.
I appreciate her work on this our 6th or 7th collaboration. Once again, I feel so fortunate
to be able to work with her.
