How To Make A Guitar Scale Sound Darker? - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Q. How do you make a guitar scale sound really dark, even evil?
The answer is to add in some chromatic notes in choice spots. The first thing though is to learn your diatonic scale really well - you can't alter what you don't know, so get it down first!

Once you know your diatonic scale really well, you can begin adding in modifications. The flatted fifth is a good place to start - sometimes called the devil's note - it really adds in a darker sound. Bands like Metallica have used this interval a lot.
