As part of NAMM 2014, on Jan 25, 2014, Gretsch Guitars presented the First Annual Twang-o-Rama at The Juke Joint Bar & Grill in Anaheim, CA. Eight bands did 30-minute sets over a period of six hours, representing a wide range of modern and retro roots and rockabilly styles, showcasing Gretsch guitars, amps, and drums.
It was pretty epic.
Legendary X guitarist Billy Zoom's deepest roots are in the rockabilly of the 50s - and that's the vein he and his New Moon Boys (Michael Kilpatrick, guitar/vocal, and Mark Torstenson, bass) mined during the fifth set of the Twang-o-Rama. The trio format, without drums, harks back to Elvis, Scotty, and Bill's original configuration - laid-back, casual, improsived rockin' with the emphasis on acoustic rhythm and tasty electric fills.
