Hey man here's what I thought

Show Review Cat Fur Que Sera

One thing you'll notice about Cat Fur right from the start is their overall attitude - this is a band that is very comfortable in it's own skin. As they take the stage the overall relax that emanates makes you wonder how anyone would be afraid to get up and do their thing in front of an audience. Some might attribute this to confidence bordering on cocky but I think it comes from front man Darin Woods long history of performing - the stage is his place in the world.

As the band breaks out into their signature

sound you can tell they have been really joining forces as of late. The respective personalities each take a place in what I would call a perfect polished mess. From start to finish you never feel this band lose pace; Even, when after a false start, you look from face to face expecting to see the fear ridden expressions of a band fucking up but instead see the collective consensus of "big fucking deal." After all, isn't it just that?

Through the night the driving guitars wandered in all directions - from fuzzy and strange, to dangerously country, to full fledged hooks. The sound is extremely juicy and made even more so by second guitarist slash piano man Tyler Case. A new element that adds a rich layer to Cat Fur. This is also the first chance I've had too see them play with Grant Wood on bass, who's playing I can only describe as the tall shadow of this band. The sound was kept in line by the steady beat and calm demeanor of stand up drummer Jera Wood who plays simply yet elegant - a mastery in the tribal sense. Darin's vocals were hitting the spot all night - a sultry sounding voice akin to a polite scream. They tend to build and fall with the music creating, in some cases, a suspense liable to send shivers down your spine.

My favorite songs of the night were "Nature of Things" and "Childish Love" but I was happily surprised by the dreamier shoegaze stuff as well.I would make sure to catch this bunch next time they wander into your neck of the woods.
