PUBLISHED:  Apr 02, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Undoubtedly one of the first American bands to incorporate the "now sound" Jamaican reggae beat to their music. They were from the Bay Area of Northern California and formed in 1973. This recording was produced and engineered by Paul Stubblebine at The Church recording studio in San Anselmo CA.
When the group broke up Ron Rhoades went on to eventually form the band The Shakers who got signed to Elektra/Asylum records and became "Americas first reggae band to be signed by a major label" in 1975 with the Toots Hibbert coined 'Yankee Reggae'. When that band broke up he put together another outfit called The Fabulous Titans who got signed to SF label Epiphany Records and released one self titled EP Co-produced and engineered by John Cuniberti.
Ron moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1990 and helped reform The Shakers who had a lengthy career releasing three CD's and traveling around the state doing clubs and concerts thanks to all the airplay generated by DJ/singer Marty Dread.
Josh Harris became a member of LA ska band The Untouchables who were signed to English label Stiff Records. He wrote several of their biggest hits. He has also released an excellent solo CD produced by David Frieberg called 'Jokers Wild'.
Joel Shankar wound up with the Rebel Rockers in LA and eventually found his way to the Big Island of Hawaii and spent many years playing and recording with reggae artists like Jack Miller and Rainbow Rastasaan before moving to Maui and joining Marty Dread's band as guitar player/drummer. Joel also has a long list of recording sessions as a studio player to his credit.
