Formed in Minneapolis, MN, self-evident have developed and applied a unique, intricate, and smart formula to standard rock songwriting, conjuring music that is very resistant to categorization. The formula is simple: guitar/vocals, bass, drums.
The band's deft instrumentation has always been their defining characteristic. Even at their loudest, singer/guitarist Conrad Mach and bassist Tom Berg manage a unique tonal harmony, equaling the beauty of their quieter passages. Following the release of
Epistemology (2005), the band parted ways with original drummer, Brian Heitzman. In 2006, Ben Johnston (ex-Clair de Lune) joined the band on drums and has provided an economy of skilled drumming that has taken the band in new directions. Gone are the
sprawling, ebb & flow sounds of the band's previous efforts. Instead, the band has replaced it with a tighter, more singular sound that continues to evolve.
self-evident have played over 600 shows all over the US with countless bands such as Don Caballero, Oxes, Juno, Chokebore, Local H, Bad Wizard, The Life And Times, and Traindodge to name a few.
They continue to tour the US regularly and in May 2011 will embark on their first Europe- an tour supporting Chicago band, Bear Claw. self-evident are signed to US label, doubleplusgood & Stiff Slack in Japan.
