AMIT TV (0068a) REWIND RELEASE

This is a Granada TV documentary from 1986 featuring Steve Phillips. He talks about his painting inspirations and development of his own methods & style, and his time working at Temple Newsam House as a furniture restorer. Then his discusses his guitar playing/building, and we see him play some blues numbers set to the video of some of the country-side which inspired his paintings. Also featured in the documentary are interviews with Mark Knopfler & Brendan Croker, and we also join the 3 friends as they play a short set at “The Band on the Wall” in Manchester. (many say the beginning of the Notting Hillbillies)

From Band on the Wall web site (BELOW):- On the day of the filming Mark Knopfler arrived early and only Mary McKay the elderly cleaner was in the building. She made him a cup of tea and they enjoyed a chat about nothing in particular. It was the following weekend that The Sunday Times printed one of its Rich Lists and this one featured the Dire Straits man in a high position. When she saw it Mary was agog to see that ‘the young lad with the guitar in a case that I served tea to in a cracked mug is a hugely rich man – and he was so nice and ordinary!’
