HOW IT ALL HAPPENED
After seeing us perform last year, Kayson Brown booked us to take up residency at the Lyceum Music Festival coming up this summer. The theme for the LMF repertory this year is Rome & Juliet including works by Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, and of course Prokofiev. It just made sense to make this video about the “two households in ancient grudge match” – Classical vs. Pop. Of course the end result is some crazy classical crossover that hopefully draws new interest into the amazing work of Prokofiev and the endless possibilities of classical instruments.

The nearly 100 high school students who make up the American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic recorded the audio during a 2 hour rehearsal in Utah, while we recorded our parts in our studio here in Arizona. We actually only had one day to do all the filming. It was filmed by Mark Andersen at Kayson Brown’s old stomping grounds – The Pie Pizzeria (where the music majors eat at the U of U) and of course the stunning Libby Gardner Concert Hall.
