Guitar Lesson on the final solo to "Sultans Of Swing" by Dire Straits...Merry Christmas man! I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it helps! :)

Sorry this is so raw, everyone! This was a quick and dirty with plenty of mistakes, as I had no time to practice, it has crappy Flip audio, there is talking in the background, and the high-pitched squealing you hear was a guest in the studio who had a hearing aid that was feeding back...LOL!

Raw as it may be, I hope it gets the point across :)

"Text-Tab" for final guitar solo to "Sultans Of Swing" by Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler...

LEGEND (Explanation of how my Text-Tabs works). I am using this because it is text-friendly, I don't have to make a bunch of crazy lines for standard tab, I think it's easy to read, I don't have to worry about
alignment problems, I can PASTE IT ANYWHERE without special files or formats, and I can even TEXT IT VIA CELL PHONE if someone has questions. This, FOR ME, makes it the BEST kind of tab. I use this with my students a LOT...

LEGEND:

*** The "Numerator" of the "Fraction" is the STRING NUMBER, and the "Denominator" of the "Fraction" is the fret number. Example: 2/8 = 2nd string, 8th fret...

*** Individual Notes are separated by commas: ,

*** ^ = Bend...For example, below: 2/8^(2/10) ...means to bend the 2nd string 8th fret to the EQUIVALENT NOTE of the UNBENT second string on the 10th fret. In other words, a WHOLE STEP BEND, so the parenthesis is not an actually-played note, but an equivalent note you have bent to.

*** If ^ PRECEEDS a note, such as: ^2/8 it means a GHOST BEND, or a STRIKING OF THE NOTE WHILE IT IS BENT, and THEN BENDING DOWN to 2/8 from the previous whole step bend.

*** ~~~ ...This is the holding or sustaining of a note with vibrato at the end of a phrase.

*** A dash, - , indicates to either hammer onto, or pull-off to a note depending on where you are coming from. For example: 2/5-2/8-2/5 means that you hammer the 2nd string 8th fret from the 2nd string 5th fret, and then pull off from the 8th fret back to the 5th fret...If you see a dash before a note, such as -6/8, it means you hammer the note without picking/plucking it, having played no previous note on that string...

*** [2&3/5] ...This is an example of a chord or combination of strings. In this example, you play the 2nd and 3rd strings TOGETHER on the 5th fret, at the same time.

*********************************

Try, if possible to get authentic tone on this, via PLAYING IT FINGER-STYLE instead of with a pick. Mark Knopfler and I both would very much appreciate it ;) ...Here we go:

2/8^(2/10), ^2/8, 2/6, 2/8, 2/6, 3/7~~~

2/8^(2/10)^2/8, 2/8, 2/5-2/8-2/5, 2/3-2/5-2/3, [2&3/5]-3/7-3/5, [3&4/5]-4/7-4/5, [4&5/5]-5/7-5/5, -6/8 ...OR... -5/3 (Yes, this last C note, I overlooked in my video, and did not notice it until I was watching it back).

3/7, 2/6, 1/5, -2/8-2/6-2/8-2/6, 3/7~

*** UNDER CONSTRUCTION...I WILL ADD MORE NOTES WHEN I GET TIME...I HAVE AN 18 HR STUDIO WORK DAY, AND THUS VERY LITTLE TIME FOR TABBING STUFF OUT ***

*** Y'ALL MESSAGE ME AND TELL ME IF THIS STYLE OF TABBING IS WORKING FOR YOU, AND IF IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE, AND IF SO, I WILL DO MORE :)
