Alabama Music Office.com goes to the 30A Songwriters Festival 2014 in South Walton County, Florida. This was their 5th year and is one of the very best Songwriters Festivals that I have covered. The Owsley Brothers was at Central Square Records in Seaside to entertain.
Armed with a cheap guitar, makeshift drum kit and an 8-track recorder, the Owsley Brothers started as the bedroom project of multi-instrumentalist J.E. Reynolds in 2011. Today, the group has grown into a full band building the lo-fi sound of Reynolds' scuzzed-out guitar and twangy vocals into a unique blend of psych rock, blues and punk with a touch of electronic. From the northern Gulf coast of Florida, the four members have been busy since the release of the critically acclaimed first EP Pure Lust and its follow-up album Cobalt. While touring the southeast, they have also been doggedly toiling away in their own studio putting the finishing touches on their next album, scheduled for release early next year.
Joining Reynolds is Brian Wise on second guitar, John Reinlie on drums and Zion Cochran on keyboards and effects. Recently their songs have been increasingly featured in popular television series such as Person of Interest on CBS, Ironside on NBC, Revenge on ABC, The League on FX and Shameless on Showtime, as well as commercial spots for GoPro, Penny Skateboards, DC Shoes and a host of other companies. Their work has generated a buzz in the music blog community; they have been featured on My Old Kentucky Blog, Aquarium Drunkard, Nine Bullets and Rollo & Grady.
